Get to know Stephen Reid – NJ Photographer

Happy Fathers Day to the many awesome fathers!

I recently met with Stephen Reid a NJ photographer that we have been following on IG. We connected with him after receiving a pic of his daughter Jordyn. His work is awesome! You want to see his diverse work (maternity, new born, family, birthdays, celebrity, and more). In meeting with him I learnt that he is a very talented person with many gifts (artist, athlete, drummer, model, graphic artist, photographer, new author, motivational speaker). As a young man, he enjoyed drawing and while only in fourth grade he attended a college level class. This experience help to shape his knowledge for shading, color, negative space, and overall composition.

During high school Stephen was both a football and track star. This allowed him the opportunity to attended Seton Hall University (South Orange, NJ) on a full track scholarships. His major was graphic & web design. After graduation, he began his professional career working for a graphic & web design company. He was impacted in a downsize and thus began freelancing.

Something interesting about Stephen is that after college he taught himself how to play the drums and is a professional drummer that is very active playing weekly. When I asked about how he was introduced to photography I learnt that he was a model and would often share with photographers how to get great pics. This was a natural for him with his artistic knowledge. Modeling lead to him embracing photography which he also taught himself (some thanks to YouTube). He began with taking images of objects using the concepts that he was familiar with from drawing. Next, friends and family. The feedback was positive from friends and family and launched his photography career that blends perfectly with his graphic & web design business. Since it is Fathers Day we picked some awesome pics with dads. Check Stephen out to see his diverse work:).

Stephen has been a photographer for seven years and weddings are one of his specialties. Check out his IG page 4ever.chosen.weddings.

It is clear the Stephen embraces doing things with the spirit of excellence. When we asked about photography and what it means to him he shared “Photography is an art form of expression capturing special moments in a unique way”.  Check out his IG page shotbysteph.

Stephen has a soon to be best seller – So You Want To Be Rich. I am in the process of reading and it is a must read. Meet Sharon Benjamin Author of Jungle Gym

Hello Blog Family,

We are delighted to share with you our interview with awesome Sharon Benjamin the author of Jungle Gym. What a well written book that is filled with beautiful illustrations.

Did you knowreading to our little ones is one of the things that connects us to them? Reading aloud helps children acquire early language skills and is widely recognized as the single most important activity leading to language development.

Okay let’s get right to it with the interview feedback from Sharon Benjamin!

What was your inspiration for writing Jungle Gym?

My inspiration for writing Jungle Gym was based on a structures of life science unit that I taught during my years as a third grade teacher which had to do with observing crayfish and growing plants hydroponically.  At the time, my classroom had no outside light source, so I create that scenario in Jungle Gym.  In order for the plants to receive sunlight, Mrs. Finkelsnoo has two of the students, Finnel and Sarah, move the plants to the gym where there are skylights.  As Finnel and Sarah are leaving the gym, they hear a noise, turn around, and see the plants growing crazy. Hence, the title, Jungle Gym.

As a child did you enjoy reading books?

It seems that I have always enjoyed reading.  One of the most memorable activities in my house was my eight-grade educated mother reading to my siblings and me.  We were very poor – really – and had very little reading material, a children’s Bible story book and a one-volume encyclopedia until my mother took a subscription to the local newspaper.  We lived in the country, and I remember my mother sending me out to the road at the end of the driveway to collect the paper.  As she sat reading, I would sit there reading as well. Then, there were times when I would beg my father to take me to the local library to check out books.  I would stay up late reading.  I still remember my father saying, “Turn off that light in there.”  Yes; I enjoyed reading.

As a young lady did you think that one day that you would be an author?

I don’t remember foreseeing myself as an author, but writing has always been an interest of mine, even when I was in elementary school.  I wrote letters to pen pals and friends through my early years of college.  For my first five years out of college, I taught classes that did not involve a lot of writing.  My next job was different.  This is where my writing began to develop even more.  It was when I worked as a Legislative Correspondent for the United Congress in the office of Congressman Edward Jones.  My job involved a lot of researching various topics and writing responses to constituents’ inquiries.  While working for Congress, I got married, had our three sons, and became a stay-at-home mom.  During that time, I volunteered for a radio station where I eventually hosted my own talk show.  I later moved to New Jersey Network Radio and Television where I hosted another talk show and did some television correspondence.  All of these situations included lots of writing.  By the time I went back to the education field, I had a renewed interest in writing, so it was relatively easy for me to transition into an author.

Share obstacles that you had to overcome to publish your first book.

Self-publishing my first book, Jungle Gym, was actually exhilarating.  I had to do all of my research, and I learned the complete publishing process.  The biggest obstacle was probably the fact that I had to finance the entire project with personal funds.

How did you find Jay Foster to illustrate your ideas? Share a bit about that.

I love writing, but my drawings are basically stick people.  Finding an illustrator was not too difficult.  I spent $60.00 on a newspaper ad that ran for two weeks with a company that has 14 publications throughout New Jersey.  I received responses from novices to professionals from Pennsylvania to New York.  The two that I preferred were too expensive.  My pastor’s wife had used Jay Foster for her first book.  I got his contact information, sent him a proposal, and he accepted.

book-pic1  book-pic-2   book-pic-3

Is this your only book? If yes, do you have plans for additional books

Yes, and Jay has actually illustrated my other two children’s books, Memories of Papa Albert and Sharon Benjamin’s ABC Book of Poetry: Don’t Dare Dance During Dinner.  I hope to have both of these books available in the next few months.

What is the best way to communicate with you to book you for a book reading/signing?

Contact me either by e-mail, phone, Facebook, or LinkedIn – sbenitab@gmail.com732-539-0547.

Thank you Sharon for taking the time and sharing with us about your book. We look forward to having you as a guest at our Rahway, NJ retail space for a book reading/signing for us. Once the date is firmed up we will be posting/announcing the event to all.

Tips on Reducing Holiday Stress

Happy Holidays Greetings on red Tags Hanging on a Line with Snowflakes Christmas or Winter Background

Happy Holidays Blog Family!

Here at Bibs Plus we received weekly emails from Dale Carnegie, Hamilton, NJ office. We love Dale Carnegie training because they are recognize internationally as the leader in bringing out the best in people. They provide training that sticks! As we are in the mist of the holidays let’s take a moment to read the tips provided to us from Dale Carnegie in reducing holiday stress.

A poll by the American Psychological Association shows that 8 out of 10 people anticipate increased stress over the holidays.

Listed below are some helpful tips to help make life a little more manageable.

  •  Set Attainable Goals – You have to be honest with yourself.
  •  Manage Your Budget/Expenses – Holidays can put a lot of stress on your budget due to gifts, luncheons, and dinners.  Strive to live within your current salary/income.  Before spending money you don’t have, you should create a holiday budget.
  •  Eat Smart And Sleep Well – Strive not to over-committing to holiday events and over eating of holiday treats. Here are some foods to reduce stress that we recommend that you include especially over the holidays.
  •  Partake in Physical Activity – With life getting busy and days feeling shorter, it is easy to not take care of yourself.  However, a bit of activity can help you keep extra weight off and reduce stress, even if you only have time for a 15-minute walk.
  •  Better Time Management -We all have things that need to be done by year-end; from holiday shopping, visiting friends to luncheons.  If you want to stay ahead of your stress level, it’s best to address them BEFORE they are due.
  •  Address How You Are Feeling -Feeling overwhelmed is natural.  Although this feeling is quite common for many of us, it might be helpful if you confide in a family member, friend or co-worker to unload these feelings.
  •  Volunteer Your Time Or Make A Donation – Many people get the holiday blues, but helping others is a great way to relieve stress and just feel better.  If you find that you and/or your organization has some discretionary funding available, it might be helpful to spend it on a cause that you feel is important.

  •  Socialize – Most of your family and friends are probably feeling the holiday stress, too.  To combat holiday stress, do something fun with them.
  •  Relax – Don’t forget to take some time to yourself and do something relaxing to get rid of stress.

  •  Maintain A Sense Of Humor – It’s easy to forget to laugh during the holiday season with so much work to get done and so many things to prepare.  Take a laugh break.  Look up some holiday jokes on Google and post them in your office or cubicle.

  •  Plan Ahead – The holidays are incredibly hectic.  However, you can reduce your stress by planning ahead.

In conclusion, the holidays are notoriously stressful for most of us, it would be to your advantage to take some time for proper planning — planning that will help you avoid the holiday stress and maintain a healthy quality of life for you and those around you. Happy holidays and we look forward to connecting again, real soon.

Sending you lots of loving energy! Stay healthy, peaceful, and loving.

Be Grateful

Happy Thanksgiving Blog Family,

Here at Bibs Plus we are very grateful for many things! Just to name a few – we are thankful for our faith, health, family, friends, team members, baby models, and our awesome customers.

It is with pleasure that we present a collaboration with Sharon Elise, a Writer, Inspirational Speaker, and Counselor from NJ. Sharon’s passion is provoking stimulating conversations about life that creates critical thinking and raises conscious awareness.  She is a first time mom, a new wife, and is currently completing her first book.

As a new mom of a beautiful 5 month old, I have much to be thankful for. In this short period of time, I’ve already learned so much from my daughter about parenting and what it means to be a mother. Like all relationships that we enter into, parenting is one that should be mutually beneficial. Albeit, society teaches us that children are to be seen and not heard; these wise little beings have much to offer. Our children are sent here to teach us, to help us to grow, and to help us heal of old wounds that have yet to be resolved.

This growth and healing can only occur if we change the way in which we view our children. The parenting relationship is one in which parent and child are both learning from each other simultaneously. We assume that because we are older we know more, when in fact, age does not equal or equate to wisdom. Perhaps we should consider the possibility that they may insight and wisdom into our human experience than we can ever fathom. After all they’re just entering into this space and are filled awe, innocence, and wonder. It’s time we take a seat in our children’s classroom and allow them to teach us. The insights they have to offer are limitless.

So today, offer up thanks for the child(ren) in your life. Give thanks for the light that shines within them. Offer thanksgiving for their sacrifices in choosing to join us in this human experience. For their uniqueness, gifts, and insights. Give thanks for the lessons that have taught, are teaching, and will continue to teach us daily. Thank them for reminding us of who we are and helping us to remember. Give thanks to the child within.

You can access Sharon’s website here – A space of PEACE, LOVE & TRUTH.

CALL TO ACTION – Remember to show kindness. It can be a phone call, a text, a card, a donation, flowers, food, and/or a smile. Do something to enhance someone’s life over this Thanksgiving holiday.

In conclusion, there is always so much to be grateful for! Below is a gospel classical that we hope you will enjoy.

An Innovated Product

expo-show    +      14192585_247383202328632_407156178055147676_n

Hello Blog Family,

Last month Bibs Plus had the pleasure of being an Exhibitor at the Baby Show Expo – a family friendly show retailing baby & toddler products for expecting moms and mothers of little ones. Next to us exhibiting an innovated product “FizzWizz” was a lovely couple that we had the pleasure of speaking with over the two day event. During the show we observed them demonstrating how to use their cleaning tablets and was WOWED by the product.

The Condensed FizzWizz Story

FizzWizz was birth because two busy moms wanted to solve a problem –  clean baby bottles and sippy cups for their little ones and sometimes while on the go.  They found that sometimes even after cleaning bottles and cups in the dishwasher they found stains and odors. Yuck and double yuck! It was so overwhelming that they found themselves tossing bottles out. If they needed a clean bottle while out and about, they had to buy more! Who has the time? Or the money? That’s when they came up with the idea of FizzWizz cleaning tablets and surface wipes. FizzWizz really is a smarter way to clean.

What we love about the product:

  • Pediatrician approved
  • It works
  • Easy to use
  • The compact size – 4 ounces and 5.1 x 3.7 x 2.4 inches
  • You get 30 tablets in a bottle
  • Ideal for airplanes, hotels, cars, restaurants, and general use in and outside of home

NOTE: You will need several ounces of water for cleaning.

Product Description

FizzWizz is made from all plant-based ingredients so it’s 100% natural. The secret weapon is a teeny tiny amount of a very powerful active ingredient (made from mushrooms) used to clean the milking apparatus in organic dairy farms. That’s why it does such a great job breaking down milk proteins among other things, which is important for a good clean on your baby bottles. But still 100% safe and natural! FizzWizz is a little tablet that packs an enormous cleaning punch.

  1. Empty the bottle or cup of any liquid
  2. Add 2-4 ounces of clean water
  3. Drop one FizzWizz tablet into dirty bottle or cup
  4. Shake well until tablet dissolve
  5. Empty bottle or cup for a GREAT CLEAN bottle or cup

Foaming, Effervescent Action

When FizzWizz dissolves, all that shaking action creates an effervescent foam that sneaks its way into all the nooks and crannies that your dishwasher and bottle brush can’t go. That foaming action, which quickly fizzles and rinses away with no film or grit, is what gets that good, deep down clean.

No Films, No Smell and No Germs Left Behind

Because the ingredients in FizzWizz are hydrophillic (water-loving) they rinse clean very quickly with just a little water. No film left behind. No smells. And NO GERMS! It’s the kind of clean you have to see and smell to believe!

Mom (Daugher 3, Son 1)

“I don’t have all the usual baby cleaning supplies at my house so FizzWizz makes taking care of my grandson very easy. I can keep his bottles clean throughout the day until his Mom comes to get him without all the effort of scrubbing or running it through the dishwasher.”

Featured Product – Yummy Mitt

Hello Blog Family,

About a year ago we had the pleasure to meet Tara and was WOWED by her story and the awesome company that Tara and her husband Carl created – Darlyng & Co.™ When their daughter was 2 months old, she was teething and constantly had anything she could get her hands on, including her own hands, in her mouth. The teethers that were available were too big for her to handle and had no grip so they would always fall on the floor. So Tara had to hold it to her mouth for her. Tara got tired of holding it, picking it up off the floors, washing and repeat. The Yummy Mitt® solved all those problems because it stays on her hand, it’s safe for her to chew on and it keeps her from biting on her hands.

Their dream was to make their first product come to life with quality materials while adding an ergonomic design. At the same time still maintaining the highest product safety standards. They worked tirelessly night and day with multiple revisions to perfect every detail, component, color, and feature. They went through extensive testing to comply with the USA, Canada, European Union and Australian safety standards. How awesome is that?

Passing and exceeding all rigorous safety requirements! The love for their beautiful daughter Alethia helped them to design a product with pure love. They shared that it was like the birth of a second child! Except they wanted to share with other parents, for they knew it would solve a common problem.

The Yummy Mitt® Teething Mitten is made with 100% food grade silicone and 100% cotton, fits on an infant’s hand and is held in place with a Velcro closure at the wrist. The silicone is safe for your baby to chew on and the cotton helps absorb excessive saliva.

  • A slit opening design on the side allows for easy access to insert and remove babies delicate hand.
  • Combining both medical food grade silicone and 100% cotton material together to better aid in the relief of aching gums.
  • Designed Ergonomically.
  • Non-Toxic, BPA, PVC, Phthalate, Latex Rubber and Nitrosamine Free.
  • Absorbent Material inside to preventing moisture to child’s hand, while absorbing moisture with cotton material on top.
  • Teething Mitten may also deter sucking of the finger or thumb in the future.
  • Makes traveling with Teether Easier! (Comes with a travel/wash bag)

What is the age range for the Yummy Mitt?

Newborns 3 – 12 months old.

Can I freeze the Yummy Mitt?

It is not necessary to freeze it, the silicone part of the mitten can be placed down in a cup of ice for a minute or two to cool mitt.

How can I purchase? as well as Toys R Us/Babies R Us – U.S.A Nationwide. Soon Bibs Plus will be selling the Yummy Mitt on our site! – watch for the announcement.

What parents are saying Love Love Love! This is a must for any teething baby. Allows them to always have something to chew and you are not obligated to hold on to it.

This is my absolute favorite teether! My daughter loves it! It’s nice that it is strapped to her band and she can’t drop it. I HIGHLY recommend!

Great for teething. Don’t have to worry about losing it, or dropping on the floor. Also LOVE that it goes in the washer!!

In conclusion, we are proud of what this beautiful couple founded and we would like to share their mission statement.

Darlyng & Co. mission is to become a leader in innovations for baby products, which benefits both parents and children. While creating high-end, functional children’s products that reinvent and inspire. While connecting with the consumer through their unique product designs.

Until our next blog, be kind, stay focus on your goals, stay present and enjoy life!

56.6 million is the Hispanic population of the United States as of July 1, 2015, making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or racial minority. Hispanics constituted 17.6 percent of the nation’s total population.

119 million is the projected Hispanic population of the United States in 2060. According to this projection, the Hispanic population will constitute 28.6 percent of the nation’s population by that date.

“America’s Hispanic community has woven unique threads into the diverse fabric of our country and played an important role in shaping our national character as a people of limitless possibility,” President Barack Obama wrote in this year’s official proclamation.

Are you observing National Hispanic Heritage Month? If you are unaware of what it is and why we observe it – now is the perfect time to increase your awareness.

How/Who established this month of recognition? This observation started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.

Why September 15 through October 15? September 15 is the Independence Day of five Latin American countries– Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras. Mexico’s Independence Day is September 16 and Chile’s is on September 18. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Who is included in this celebration? Everyone! This month honors those who trace their roots to Central and South America, as well as Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Mexico — but we’re all invited to the party.  Here are 5 Hispanic Americans you should know about.

In conclusion, share in this special annual tribute by learning more and celebrating the generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Until next time, be grateful, be loving, and be courageous.

Guest Blogger Kia Drew – Styling Her Little Black Dress

Kia Drew Black Dress

Hello Blog Family,

It was our pleasure when we connected with soon to be first time mother Kia Drew who is a model, stylist and fellow blogger. She has so much style and is blogging about her motherhood experiences. This blog is about ‘The Little Black Dress’ that is working for her.

Kia shared that as she is progressing along in her pregnancy it is critical that she is comfortable in her outfits! However, she does not want to sacrifice style.  While searching for great stylish maternity clothes Kia found PinkBlush a trendy online boutique.  She selected this basic little black dress because it is flexible with a hi-low cut, the lightweight fabric feels great and is breathable. She recommends this little black dress for prego moms! Okay let’s check out how Kia had fun styling this dress.

#1 – She added two bold accessories. A statement piece of jewelry with a great design aspect to it and sunglasses. She recommends that you choose an awesome necklace, bracelet, watch, sunglasses or earring to define your dress.

How to Create a Cute Girly Mohawk – Guest Blogger Dione Posso

main pic of Layla

Hi everyone my name is Dione and I am a mother to three beauties Alyssa 12, Natalia 7 and Layla who is one years old. As a mom of three girls I make sure their hair always looks their best. On my spare time I like to look up new and different hairstyles. My favorite part is that I get to recreate the hairstyles and make them my own. I wanted to share with you how I styled Layla’s hairstyle in the above pic because I had quite a few people ask me to share ‘How to Steps’. I know a lot of people use braids in this hairstyle but I decide not to use braids because my daughter’s scalp is very sensitive. Therefore I decide to do a flat twist on both sides of her hair. I will be showing you how to do this hairstyle now – step by step.

These are the materials used to achieve this hairstyle.

  •  Cantu hair products for kids
  • a wide tooth comb to detangle hair & a small thin tail comb
  • clips
  • rubber bands
  • and any hair style product that use on your child’s hair

It’s important to give your child something to entertain them while you do their hair for example: a favorite toy or have them watch something they enjoy. I wanted to find a video that shows exactly how I do my flat twist, so glad I found one. Below is a link to a Youtube video that explains how to do a flat twist. .After watching the video you should now be ready to try this.

Here is a collage showing how to part the hair, I like to pick only one side to work on instead of working on both sides, because it is easier for me to match up each part. Once you follow all the steps the last thing you have to do is the part in the middle. What I did was let the hair lose and curly hang down like bangs.
